Review

I had bought myself a pair of tickets online from since I knew I was going to Quebec, Canada to see my family for a month. i knew they weren't coming to Florida so I knew then had to be the time. I was supposed to go with my friend from up there but about a week before the show he told me he couldn't go. So the search for someone to go with me and use up my other ticket set on. Anyway my cousin ended up going with me.

We left arounrd 3pm from Levis, Quebec and it took about 3 hours to get to Montréal by car. Getting there around 6 we went off to our favorite restaurant in the Portuguese part of the town. Around 7 we were in front of the Metropolis where the show was to take place. I personally thought the place was going to be big but the front of the place was only about 20 feet wide in between other businesses. There was no line and people just walked in so we did the same. I thought there would be more people but there wasn't...yet.

Inside was much bigger than the front would of led you to believe. The whole back was owned my the Metropolis so the place was simply a pretty big club. After being quickly frisked by the guards we could either go upstairs where there was a big balcony all along or stay on the bottom in front of the stage. So we stayed on the bottom. First we saw a bunch of tables with bar stools and a bar, further down was a big wooden circular floor and in with a bar on each side and in the front the stage for the show. After finally getting my t-shirts and keychains my cousin and I set ourselves up about 50 feet away from the stage and waited for the show to start.

At exactly 8pm right on time the crappy rock and metal music from the stereo finally stopped and the lights came off. By then the whole place was packed full. Out came the band Crossbreed as expected since the sign out front had said so. They had glow in the dark makeup on and their entire show consisted of glow in the dark and the likes. I had done my homework and had downloaded their cd, and I had liked it fairly well, but i can honestly say that after their performance I now like them ALOT. The singer was trying as best as he could to get the crowd involved and he did, the mosh pit up front was pretty big and he kept encouraging them. For a couple songs the singer went down the stage up to the crowd and sang next to them. After about 25 minutes sadly Crossbreed was done and the lights came back on along with the stereo music.

After Crossbreed I was able to dump off the t-shirts onto my cousin and got over my fears of going near the pit, this was my first big show so I wasn't really sure of anything, anyway with my size I knew I had no problem, what was really bothering me were the damn t-shirts. So I went up about 10 feet away from the stage. It took the roadies about 20 minutes to get the stage ready and once again the lights went off and the group came out. The sign out front had said Crossbreed and Rammstein and after talking to a online buddy who also went to the show I had thought that it would be Rammstein next. To my amazement as soon as they begin playing I immediately figured out it wasn't Ramm but instead the group Godhead like I had originally thought. At first people seemed to like it. Too soon however people got tired of the band because it all seemed the same and the singer made absolutely NO effort to get the crowd going. By the time they sang they're good song Eleanor Rigby people didn't give a damn anymore. After about 45 minutes of playing they left the stage and as they were leaving and even earlier towards the end of their show people were booing them and telling them to get the fuck off the stage.

It took the roadies 35 minutes this time to get the stage ready, about 10 minutes before they came out people in the pit started lifting people up and passing them around and the whole place started chantin "RAMMSTEIN RAMMSTEIN..." The place was going crazy already. Rammstein finally came out.

I'll just take this time to warn you that what follows is what I remember and that the show was so good that for some reason i can't even remember the tracklist, so i could be wrong in a couple places and if so I'm sorry 8-)

As they started to play smoke was coming out of their shirts, shoes, and everything. There was no 5/4 intro as has come to be customary during this tour and they started right into Mein Herz Brennt. Almost everyone stood in awe and as Till started to sing the lyrics the biggest mosh pit yet started and it fucking ROCKED! I was right in the middle and we were ALL pushing and shoving as much as we ever could.

After Mein Herz Brennt they went through about 6 or so songs all from the new cd Mutter before hitting an older song, here is a list of all the songs played and keep in mind that they are NOT in order, this is very vague but I am sure those were all the songs played though.

[Setlist moved to top of review]

The show went by so fast that i don't remember all the details, so I'll just mention what I remember.

The group all had red almost pink hair. Till had a mohawk. Flake's set-up was really cool.He had lights and in all it looked like a surgeon's or a dentist's work area. The setlist was pretty good as they played around 6 songs and then the first old song was Heirate mich. It was really incredible how many people were singing the lyrics, it happened often that Till would let the crowd do the choruses and stuff. It seemed weird to me since half the people spoke French and the other half English yet nobody gave a damn since they all came for the same thing and didn't understand anymore than the other.

The first thing major that happened was that either Paul or Richard I think strapped on a weird looking gas mask type thing with fire around the breathing piece. As the guitars were hitting hard he blew out a big ass flame that went the entire width of the stage right next to the other guitarist on the other side. Of course also present were the sparking boots and the usual fire pillars coming from the ground during a couple songs. The coolest trick probably had to be the part where one of the guitarist's guitar lit on fire and a huge flame was coming off of it and he was still playing it. The mosh pits were really hard and good up until Mutter which was the last new song at the begging right before Heirate Mich. Till Started sucking his thumb and then they played the song and eveyone was calmed down and singing along. Right at the next song the pit started up again. The biggest pit of the concert HAD to be during Du Hast, it was crazy! After a long time of playing the lights went out and they left the stage. Nobody was moving and everyone agian started yelling out "RAMMSTEIN RAMMSTEIN" A roadie came out and put a flashlight on the microphone stand prompting all of us not to leave. When they came back out the song Rammstein started to play and Till came out with the customary flaming coat and for the whole song was on fire and singing. At the end of the song though his leg was still on fire, and a roadie came out with a fire extinguisher and handed it to one of the group members. He then turned it on towards Till's leg and it shot out a huge flame all over Till and the fire was then on his back instead! Till fell to the ground and roadies covered him with towels and for a little while he stayed on the ground. He then got up and his face looked all burned, throughout all that people where asking each other if this was normal and part of the show. Till looked straight out and pulled off a mask and they started right into the next song real hard.

Unfortunately they didn't play my favorite song from Mutter which is Spieluhr and also my favorite from Herzeleid Du Riescht so Gut but the show still kicked ass! They left the stage and it seemed like the end, but once again nobody moved and everyone started chanting "RAMMSTEIN RAMMSTEIN" and after about 7 or 8 minutes Rammstein came back out along with Godhead. Till wasn't on stage and taking the mic was Flake. I hadn't read any concert reviews before so i had no clue what was going on. Flake started singing, in English! The singer from Godhead also sang some parts. The song was Pet Cemetary by the Ramones. The guitarist and bassists from both groups were playing. I have to admit that Flake didn't sing too well but it was one hell of a treat, well worth the effort by Flake. Lights went out and the bands left, then the club's lights came on and everyone started to leave.
